Why you should use this Toolkit

Fact-checking skills can help embed credibility in professional journalism and win back the trust of audiences. Journalism students and media workers who are empowered to recognise and expose false information can empower their audiences to make informed decisions about their lives.

The Fact Check Uganda Toolkit is designed to equip journalism students and media workers with those skills.
It draws on the fact-checking expertise of journalists in the country who were part of the Fact Lens project, set up to expose mis- and disinformation during the 2026 Ugandan election.
The Fact Check Uganda Toolkit has case studies, downloadable fact sheets and checklists to guide you through the fact-checking process.
There are six sections.

  • The first four helps you know, recognise and expose false information
  • The fifth guides you on safety considerations
  • The sixth contains useful resources to enable you to continue learning

You can keep coming back to the Toolkit and access any part of any section at any time.
If you’re using the Toolkit for the first time, it’s recommended that you go through Sections 1-4 in order.
